Lead Nurse

This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Branch of Emergency Medicine at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. The Lead Nurse coordinates all patient care activities and serves as a liaison for the ER, ensuring that care is delivered in an efficient and safe manner.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinates patient care activities and delegates workload to team members.
- Serves as a liaison for the ER and ensures that care is delivered in an efficient and safe manner.
- Provides professional nursing care and assists with the coordination of care for patients referred in and out of the Emergency Room.
- Applies the nursing process to patients of all ages requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a variety of illnesses and injuries.
- Consults with attending physicians and other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed.
- Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician.
- Participates in the development, updating, and evaluation of standards of care and quality improvement monitoring.
- Maintains patient flow and efficiently in order to ensure safety, patient confidentiality, and to expedite onset of treatment.
- Assigns, directs, and delegates staff according to their capabilities to meet patient needs.
- Serves as a resource person for staff floating to the ED.
- Serves as team leader and formulates work schedules.
- Ensures patient education occurs during the shift.
- Ensures correct narcotic count at the end of the shift, reviews and revises nursing care plans.
- Works in coordination with other lead nurses from other units.
- Serves as a resource person, provides guidance and leadership to staff.
- Reviews patient's chart and ensures the staff makes legible, accurate and complete nursing entries in the patient chart for all nursing care given.
- Assures nursing compliance to administrative policies and procedures, regulations, standards of care, directives and other regulating agencies.
- Participates in the preceptorship program as assigned.
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period.
- ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
- Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
- Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
- The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain an active, unrestricted Nursing license in any State (U.S.).
- May be required to work on a regular assigned or rotating shift: including days, nights, weekends and/or holidays.
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
