Position Overview:

The incumbent will be accountable for executing a complete range of repair and maintenance tasks on major components and assemblies of various vehicles and material handling equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

- Conducts extensive maintenance, overhaul, and repair work on critical components and assemblies such as engines, transmissions, and differentials for automobiles, gasoline and/or diesel-powered trucks, buses, and material handling equipment like forklifts.

- Evaluates the precise nature and extent of repairs needed and performs both major and minor overhauls on engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, braking systems, and associated electrical, fuel, hydraulic, wheel, and engine assemblies.

- Disassembles and reassembles components and assemblies as required, installing necessary parts such as rings, pistons, bearings, and gears.

- Aligns, meshes, and connects repaired units to related mechanisms, ensuring proper functionality.

- Connects fuel, oil, hydraulic, and electrical systems to repaired units and makes necessary adjustments for optimal operation.

- Utilizes a variety of diagnostic equipment including test panels, dynamometers, oscilloscopes, and exhaust analyzers, alongside visual and auditory inspections to identify and locate defects.

The technician will demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect while assisting customers. Work assignments are typically received through work orders, inspection reports, or verbal instructions.

- Expected to plan work sequences, select appropriate tools, and repair parts, completing assignments independently while referring only complex issues to a supervisor.

Work is subject to review upon completion to ensure compliance with established trade standards. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. ASE Certifications relevant to assigned tasks are mandatory.

XW-10 Technicians must hold all 8 ASE Certifications in the Automobile and Light Truck Certification Series A Testing or Master Certification, which includes: A- Engine Repair, A- Automatic Drive Train Transaxle, A- Manual Drive Train Axles, A- Suspension Steering, A- Brakes, A- Electrical Electronic Systems, A- Heating Air Conditioning, A- Engine Performance.

Failure to maintain current ASE Certifications may lead to a position downgrade or termination due to non-compliance with job requirements.


Physical Demands:

The role requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in physically demanding positions where components are located in hard-to-reach areas. Regular lifting of parts and equipment weighing between 20-50 pounds is expected.



Work Environment:

Typically operates indoors on concrete surfaces that may be drafty and noisy, with exposure to vehicle fumes, and occasionally outdoors in varying weather conditions. The technician may encounter dirt, dust, and grease, and is subject to potential cuts, bruises, burns, shocks, and strains.



Training Requirements:
The technician must complete hazardous material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations.

Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience is required, providing the knowledge and skills necessary for automotive repair and maintenance services on vehicles such as cars, trucks, vans, or forklifts.

Substitution of Education and Certification for Experience:
Two years of automotive technical education may replace one year of required experience.

Certification:
Technicians must possess Master Certification in Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Series A. Candidates with equivalent automobile manufacturer certifications may also qualify.

ASE Series A Master Certification encompasses the following certifications:

Engine Repair (A1), Automatic Transmission (A2), Manual Drive Train and Axle (A3), Steering and Suspension (A4), Brakes (A5), Electrical Electronics (A6), Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (A7), Engine Performance (A8).

Substitutions may be made with Series L1.

Physical Requirements:

The technician must be capable of standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in physically demanding positions where components are in hard-to-reach areas, regularly lifting parts and equipment weighing from 20-50 pounds.
