Sociology Instructor

InsideHigherEd is inviting applications for a part-time (.75) Sociology Instructor position within the Department of Social Science and Public Affairs. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong track record of effective teaching at the collegiate level, including experience in online education. Specializations in areas such as law and society, family dynamics, religion, and race/ethnicity are highly valued.

Our faculty play a crucial role in mentoring students throughout their academic journey, assisting them in identifying opportunities for credit for prior learning. InsideHigherEd is committed to supporting faculty development and offers professional growth activities that enhance teaching and mentoring capabilities. As a highly decentralized organization, we leverage various technological tools for communication, education, and administrative functions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Designing and delivering online courses in Sociology, including foundational courses such as Intro to Sociology, Social Issues, Global Social Challenges, and Family Dynamics.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to students as they navigate their degree programs across diverse academic disciplines.
  • Collaborating with peers in the development of curriculum and academic evaluations within the Social Science and Public Affairs Department.
  • Exhibiting a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the faculty role.


**Job Requirements:**
Required Qualifications:
  • A master's degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international university in sociology or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse student populations.
  • Capability to thrive in a distributed faculty environment.
  • Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Sociology from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international university.
  • Experience in online teaching environments.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Experience with academic assessment and outcomes evaluation.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies, online course development, and revision.

Special Information:
  • This is a part-time (.75) temporary position.
  • Some travel may be necessary for university-wide obligations.
  • Office hours will be flexible to meet student needs.
  • Evening and/or weekend engagement with students may be required.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

**Additional Information:**
Rank/Salary: Instructor, $50,000 (part-time rate).
