Sociology Instructor

InsideHigherEd is looking for qualified candidates for a part-time (.75) Sociology Instructor role within the Department of Social Science and Public Affairs. We prioritize applicants who demonstrate exceptional teaching abilities at the collegiate level, particularly those with experience in online education, and specialization in areas such as law and society, family dynamics, religion, and race/ethnicity.

Our faculty members play a crucial role in guiding students through their academic journeys, including assisting them in recognizing opportunities for credit for prior learning. We are committed to supporting our educators in their student interactions and offer professional development initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching and mentoring capabilities. As a widely distributed institution, we leverage various technological tools for communication, instruction, and administrative tasks.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Creating and delivering online courses in Sociology, covering topics such as Introduction to Sociology, Social Issues, Global Social Challenges, and Family Dynamics.
  • Providing mentorship and academic advising to students as they navigate their degree paths across diverse academic disciplines.
  • Collaborating with fellow faculty in the development of curricula and assessment processes within the Social Science and Public Affairs Department.
  • Exhibiting a strong dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging in all faculty responsibilities.


Job Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
  • A master's degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international university in sociology or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level.
  • Proficiency in supporting diverse student populations.
  • Ability to thrive in a distributed faculty environment.
  • Excellent communication, technological, and organizational skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • PhD in Sociology from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international university.
  • Experience teaching in online educational settings.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Experience with academic assessment and outcomes evaluation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies, online course development, and revision processes.

Additional Information:
  • This is a part-time (.75) temporary position for a duration of 12 months.
  • Some travel may be necessary for university-wide obligations.
  • Office hours will be flexible to meet student needs.
  • Evening and weekend engagement with students may be required.
  • Applicants must have authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Compensation: Lecturer position with a salary of $50,000 (part-time rate).
