Job Summary

The College of Education and Human Development at Augusta University invites applications for the Department Chair of the Department of Teaching and Leading. We seek a visionary leader to support the growth of our department, which offers a unique combination of initial certification programs, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, online Masters programs in Instruction, and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all departmental activities, consult with faculty in outlining and promoting internal departmental policies, and ensure compliance with departmental, college, university, and Board of Regents (BOR) policies.
  • Assume responsibility for the quality of the instruction, research, and service programs conducted in the department and present an annual report to the Dean of the College outlining both targeted and accomplished teaching, research, and service activities of the department.
  • Provide mentoring and support to promote career advancement of department faculty, conduct annual assessments of progress toward identified goals, and assist in identifying resources to foster continued growth and development.
  • Recruit part-time faculty to support instruction.
  • Serve as a liaison to other departments and offices of the university, as well as represent the department in all official communications with senior leaders, students, and alumni.
  • Oversee the assignment of teaching, schedules, and other duties within the department and maintain an equitable and mutually agreeable distribution of assignments.
  • In accordance with University and Board of Regents policies, participate in the recommendation of appointment and reappointment, promotion and tenure, and dismissal or non-renewal of members of the faculty.
  • Administer the annual budget in consultation with the administrative team and business office staff. Upon approval, review the budget with departmental faculty.
  • Initiate and maintain standards which ensure the appropriate expenditure of departmental funds and appropriate care and use of departmental property.
  • Collaborate with other members of the COE Administrative team in leadership and management of college operations, strategic assessment, planning and resource allocation, design and execution of faculty support systems, and implementation of continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Promote the development of interdisciplinary programs of research and actively recruit new faculty in nascent or under-represented areas of research demonstrating a commitment to access, success, and belonging.
Required Qualifications

An earned doctorate in an education-related field aligned with Teaching and Leading. Demonstrates an ongoing record of scholarly work commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Urban or Rural educational settings.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
