Job Overview

POSITION: Operations Officer

This position adheres to all stipulations of the SMART/UTU collective bargaining agreement.

REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

ROLE SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, this role is responsible for executing operational and security functions at the airport.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting thorough inspections of the Air Operations Area (AOA) to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Issuing runway condition reports and other NOTAMS as directed to maintain safe airport operations.
  • Inspecting security access systems and entry points to ensure compliance with security protocols, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), Emergency Plan, Vehicle Access Plan, Snow Removal procedures, and other necessary regulations.
  • Assisting in the coordination and oversight of construction activities at the airport.
  • Supporting snow removal operations, aircraft salvage, and emergency situations in collaboration with airlines and external agencies.
  • Participating in monitoring the Glycol Containment System in accordance with Best Management Practices.
  • Enforcing regulations concerning access and identification within the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
  • Documenting incidents of property damage, personal injury claims, and equipment malfunctions for management review.
  • Assisting in the enforcement of noise abatement regulations, including logging noise complaints.
  • Conducting patrols of airport facilities and grounds to ensure safety, security, and cleanliness.
  • Enforcing Airport Rules and Regulations.
  • Facilitating communication between airport tenants and maintenance departments to resolve tenant issues promptly.
  • Performing customer service tasks such as providing directions, managing lost and found items, and overseeing media room operations.
  • Reporting safety hazards, code violations, and security concerns.
  • Notifying the Supervisor of any infractions to Airport Rules and Regulations and coordinating emergency responses as necessary.
  • Engaging in Total Quality Management initiatives and performance evaluations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma is required; an Associate's Degree is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and interpret documents such as safety guidelines and operational instructions. Proficient in drafting routine reports and effective verbal communication with groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Competency in basic mathematical operations and the ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply logical reasoning to execute instructions provided in various formats and to handle challenges involving multiple variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid New York State Driver's License. Current ASOS certification is required for specific responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical requirements include:

  • Regular standing, walking, and using hands for various tasks.
  • Frequent reaching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Occasional lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision and depth perception.
