Aircraft Mechanic I Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Aircraft Mechanic I to join our team at Amentum. As an Aircraft Mechanic I, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair and replace aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components, including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listen to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, and test engine operation using testing equipment.
  • Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories, perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft, enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed, and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of equipment related to individual requirements (AH-64).
  • Knowledge of military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory.
  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Three years of aviation maintenance experience, two years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to travel as needed (if applicable) for MWO mission.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Preferred/Physical Qualifications:

  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • Exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts in shop area.
