Detention Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at the City of Lansing, MI. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our community by processing arrestees, ensuring the smooth operation of the Detention Center, and providing exceptional customer service.

• Process arrestees, including booking, fingerprinting, and maintaining custody and control
• Ensure the safe and secure operation of the Detention Center
• Provide exceptional customer service to the public, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders
• Work collaboratively with other departments and agencies to achieve common goals
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices and procedures

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred
• At least six months of full-time paid experience in a related field, such as security, law enforcement, or corrections
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to pass a thorough background investigation and obtain necessary certifications

• LEIN certification
• Taser certification
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Fluency in a second language
• Sign language skills
