Job Overview:

The Lead Mammography Technologist is tasked with overseeing and coordinating the daily functions of the mammography unit, ensuring effective management of resources, staff, patient services, and adherence to regulatory standards. This position requires collaboration with referring physicians and may involve working with a varied patient demographic, including infants, children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. The Lead Technologist may also undertake Technologist responsibilities as necessary and is expected to uphold a commitment to safety and exceptional service.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership and Staff Management:

  • Conduct interviews, provide training, orient new staff, offer guidance, and assess employee performance; implement disciplinary measures when required.
  • Advise on hiring decisions and disciplinary actions to upper management.
  • Manage staff schedules, approve leave requests, and oversee attendance records.

Financial Management:

  • Assist in the formulation and oversight of capital and operational budgets for the department.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Evaluate the quality of imaging procedures and services within the unit.
  • Support the management in the development and execution of the Quality Improvement Plan and departmental protocols.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Provide updates on equipment, staffing, and other departmental matters during management meetings and through written communications.

Technologist Responsibilities:

  • Regularly fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a Technologist (NM, US, or IR).

Safety Protocols:

  • Follow safety procedures in line with hospital and departmental guidelines.
  • Promptly report any mechanical or electrical equipment issues, unsafe conditions, or injuries to management.

Commitment to Service Excellence:

  • Exhibit outstanding service in interactions with patients, colleagues, visitors, physicians, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist, with credentials in Radiography and Mammography (R.T.(R)(M)(ARRT)).
  • Proficiency in performing stereotactic procedures and/or quality control specific to mammography.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (CPR and AED).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Mammography Technologist.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a supervisory role.
