Job Summary

The Architect of the Capitol is seeking a highly skilled Insulator Worker to join our team in the Director Utilities and Power Plant Operations, Insulation Branch. As an Insulator Worker, you will perform routine tasks and assist journey-level incumbents with assignments, operating engineering equipment less than 10% of the work time and performing hazardous material removal and disposal, complying with OSHA and EPA safety and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, repair, and remove insulation on pipes, tanks, boilers, ducts, and other structures using a variety of insulating materials.
  • Measure, cut, trim, and fit insulating materials in accordance with detailed oral or written procedures and use trade tools and equipment as knives, rasps, scissors, metal banding equipment, metal shears, and breaks.
  • Remove, repair, enclose, and encapsulate asbestos insulation and other asbestos building products, ensuring proper precautions are taken to reduce the possibility of releasing asbestos fibers into the environment.
  • Utilize personal safety equipment and supplies to protect personal health and the health of others during asbestos abatement operations, complying with OSHA and EPA safety and reporting requirements as well as NIOSH, NESH, and AHERA regulatory requirements.
  • Perform hazardous material removal and disposal duties, handling and/or removing friable and non-friable asbestos, and possessing the knowledge required to safely and legally remove or alter friable and non-friable asbestos.
Requirements
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Pass a drug test.
  • Meet the definition of specialized experience.
Working Conditions

The selectee will be subject to a criminal record check by the U.S. Capitol Police and satisfactory adjudication to be eligible for employment at the Architect of the Capitol. The Architect of the Capitol is an E-VERIFY Participant, and the selectee will be required to complete a DHS Form I-9 and provide documentation to verify employment authorization in the United States.
