Job Summary

Geisinger Health System is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in an outpatient setting. As a Clinical Support Specialist, you will provide direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers. You will function as an integral member of the healthcare team, performing clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, and documenting using the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient information, including reason for visit, weight, vital signs, and medication review.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms between cases.
  • Assist patients as needed to prepare for visit with provider, ensuring patient safety and privacy.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by provider, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and assisting with minor surgical procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform phlebotomy and assist with specific laboratory functions relative to testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens.
  • Document in the electronic medical record and use the scheduling system to manage patient appointments.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and other healthcare team members to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient needs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Graduate from a Specialty Training Program (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification
