Job Overview

Position Summary:
Under general oversight, this role is tasked with the direct management and oversight of a moderate-sized driver team, ensuring the secure and punctual transportation of goods, assignment of loads, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Ensure adherence to DOT regulations and oversee all driver compliance with company policies while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to guarantee precise planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight and loads.

The transportation supervisor must be prepared to work various shifts to meet the demands of operational flexibility, which may include day, night, and weekend shifts to ensure effective operations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and sustain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety personnel to reduce turnover and enhance ongoing productivity.
  • Step in for absent or unavailable staff and assist with special projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
  • Implement personnel management practices, including the training and orientation of drivers and/or employees, as well as assisting with internal and third-party systems.
  • Analyze fleet operations and profitability, providing recommendations for continuous improvement, determining and measuring key performance indicators, and creating, maintaining, and presenting customer-specific reports and financial analyses through direct interactions at customer locations.
  • Oversee inventory, assets, customer pools, and/or driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as payroll, driver counseling, accident investigations, documentation, resolving pay discrepancies, invoicing, and generating operational or financial reports.
  • Manage yard operations, including equipment inspections, parts replacements, and repairs, while coordinating with maintenance to ensure timely scheduling of preventative maintenance services and resolution of safety-related mechanical issues.
  • Collaborate with drivers, customers, and company personnel to address service issues, routing and planning challenges, mechanical problems, and pay-related inquiries as they arise throughout the day, including on-call situations.
  • Promote the company's safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training sessions, annual reviews, and enforcement of company policies to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 2-3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience, along with the ability to work across various shifts, including nights and weekends as necessary.

OR Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:

  • Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships.
  • Experience in fostering strong customer relationships through commitment delivery, open communication, and ongoing feedback for improvement.
  • Ability to process information with high accuracy.
  • Skill in analyzing situations and making informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Capability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience in holding individuals accountable and conducting difficult conversations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure work environment.

Compensation:

Starting pay may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may also be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volumes, in accordance with the company's bonus and incentive plans.
