Job Summary

The Mental Health Association of Oklahoma is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to oversee and assist with the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cash flow, preparing financial statements, and coordinating the annual audit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support accounting and grant management functions, including billing, reporting, draws, and filings.
  • Assist in developing internal controls and policies to ensure compliance with legislation and best practices.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and provide explanations for significant variations from the budget.
  • Manage journal entries and ensure all accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Oversee preparation and assistance during the annual audit.
  • Perform various administrative duties as needed, including consulting with staff members and volunteers on projects, events, budgets, and financial matters.
  • Supervise, advise, and take corrective action as necessary.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Controller or similar role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a business, finance, or related field.
  • CPA or CPA eligibility preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and experience in non-profit accounting and/or with federal, state, or local grants.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data management systems.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Works well in a team environment, is self-motivated, and results-oriented.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting with moderate noise levels.
  • No environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.
  • Work requires a flexible schedule due to internal and external meetings, with occasional travel required.
  • Physical ability to move 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods.
