Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in both Sybase ASE 15.7 and SQL Server environments to join our team at A-Line Staffing Solutions.

This is a long-term contract position with the potential for full-time employment, requiring the ideal candidate to assist with our current Sybase environment and support the ongoing transition to a fully SQL Server-based infrastructure over the next three years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide DBA support for Sybase ASE 15.7 running on Solaris within an X86 hardware environment.
  • Assist with routine DBA tasks including weekly data fixes and after-hours implementations.
  • Develop and manage CRON jobs and perform command-line tasks in a Unix environment.
  • Support the ongoing migration from Sybase to SQL Server.
  • Assist SQL Server DBAs by offloading tasks related to Windows Server-based SQL Server environments.
  • Perform troubleshooting and issue resolution for database systems.
  • Work with clusters and disaster recovery in development, test, and production environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotation after the initial training period, assisting from Saturday morning to Monday morning, when necessary.
  • Collaborate with senior DBAs to implement changes and updates in a formal change control environment.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience working with Sybase ASE 15.7 in a Unix (Solaris) environment.
  • Strong Unix/Linux command-line skills and experience managing CRON jobs.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and Windows Server environments.
  • Understanding of database clustering and disaster recovery processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex issues independently.
  • Familiarity with formal change control environments.
Desired Experience
  • Previous experience migrating from Sybase to SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Azure SQL environments.
  • Knowledge of database version upgrades in SQL Server environments.
