Job Summary:

As a Psychiatric Technician at DHR Health, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the personal care and comfort of psychiatric patients, creating a safe and clean environment that promotes their well-being. You will participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities, working collaboratively with the nursing team to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct a thorough client inventory in the Intake area, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
• Provide clear and concise report to the nurse and tech picking up client in the Intake area, maintaining open communication channels.
• Ensure patient safety by not leaving them unattended at any time, identifying and disposing of contraband appropriately.
• Coordinate with the nurse and family to send home medications, if necessary, and orient patients and family to BHR processes, including monitoring, programming, activities, and phone numbers for units.
• Assist on units in between admissions, coordinating tasks with the Intake Department, and orient patients to the unit, taking admission vital signs and recording on the Nursing Assessment Form.
• Perform and record patient vital signs, intake and output, notifying the RN of any changes, and provide general nursing care, including transferring patients and assisting with ADLs.
• Continuously observe patients' behavior, mental status, and activities, notifying the RN of any changes or unusual occurrences, and demonstrate the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.
• Escort patients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests, and perform patient safety checks at scheduled times, documenting appropriately.
• Participate in patient care conferences, communicate clearly and concisely with the Nurse Manager, RNs, and physicians, and demonstrate the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.

Requirements:

• High school/GED preferred.
• CPI training required within 30 days of hire date.
• Current CNA certification required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
• Prefer hospital experience and strong communication and organizational skills, with reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
