We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our team at Teledyne FLIR Defense. As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the technical efforts on program KOM, SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR, ensuring the program execution follows system engineering processes.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Gimbal surveillance product development cycles, full system engineering experience in the development of large and complex products with EO/IR imaging sensors, Laser tracking & detection, fine and sophisticated mechanical and control subsystems, gimbal systems, etc., and DOD/Space system engineering experience is a plus.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a Principal Systems Engineer or Chief Engineer, responsible for leading full system technical activities on medium-to-large product or program development through complete life cycle.
  • Responsible for receiving and translating customer's needs and requirements to internal engineering teams.
  • Leading technical efforts on program KOM, SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR, ensuring the program execution follows system engineering processes.
  • Providing technical direction and path forward to a multi-discipline engineering team.
  • Ensuring technical compliance and successful delivery of the IR&&D and CR&&D program products to customers.
  • Creating and managing project and product specifications.
  • Overseeing and ensuring key subsystems specification flow-down.
  • Working closely with program/project management, ensuring the program/project compliance to the specification and on-time delivery within budget.
  • Making significant contributions to technical presentations and technical reports, analysis, and proposals to customers.
  • Creating specifications and test plans for systems with emphasis on sensor technology, optical systems, and system integration and test. Flow down system specifications to subsystems.
  • Leading laboratory testing and qualification efforts for new and existing optical systems and IR sensor products. Developing all necessary test plans, performing data collection, analyzing data, and documenting results.
  • Working as an individual contributor SME in expert areas, optical system design, imaging sensor evaluation, gimbal systems architecture, system integration, etc.
  • Providing business development support in the areas of new customer requirements analysis, proposal writing, sensor performance modeling, and fielding technical inquiries.
  • Providing systems engineering support to manufacturing, production, and customer service groups as needed in support of existing products. Taking a leading role in troubleshooting technical problems.
  • Contributing to Intellectual Property development and/or authoring and/or making substantial contributions to technical papers.
  • Leading and contributing to new technology investigations, system trade studies, technical surveys, competitive product analyses, as requested.
