About the Department

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at San Jose State University is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the experiences and contributions of Chicana/o communities. Our department offers undergraduate and graduate programs that emphasize critical thinking, research, and community engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Chicana/o Studies, including introductory and advanced courses on topics such as Chicana/o history, culture, and politics.
  • Develop and maintain a research agenda that contributes to the field of Chicana/o Studies, with a focus on critical Latinx Indigeneities, Central American Studies, or Afro-Latinx Studies.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students in the MA program in Chicana/o Studies.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and community outreach.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Chicana/o Studies or a related field.
  • Record of publications or strong potential for publications.
  • Teaching experience and ability to work with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and research trends in Chicana/o Studies.
  • Experience with teaching, advising, and program development.
  • Ability to secure extramural funding or work on funded projects.
