Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Large Account Underwriter to join our team at American National. This role involves reviewing and underwriting large books of business, evaluating complex risk scenarios, and contributing to target profit and loss metrics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and assess risk on complex applications, renewals, and reinstatements, making decisions on risk acceptability.
  • Contribute to target profit and loss metrics for assigned portfolio.
  • Recommend pricing decisions in line with retention objectives and interact with internal and external customers to enhance business relationships.
  • Consider alternative insurance options, such as facultative reinsurance, as part of risk determination.
  • Construct complex policy and coverage structures to meet large account needs.
  • Understand company appetite for reinsured exposure and retention limits.
  • May work directly with agents to underwrite and bind business.
  • Provide product knowledge transfer to agents and underwriters, and assist agents and field management on changes in guidelines and processes.
  • Mentor lower-level underwriters on advanced or complex risks.
  • Educate, coach, and train agents on underwriting procedures, philosophy, and products.
  • Independently lead and coordinate projects outside normal job duties, frequently involving collaboration with others.
  • Significant familiarity with agents and their staff, continually reassessing assigned risks for profitability and exposure.
  • Provide support or guidance in absence of manager, acting as a lead team member.
Requirements
  • Associate degree.
  • Eight to 10 years of Underwriting experience.
