About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician II to join our team at Brooklyn Community Services. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the general safety and cleanliness of our facilities, performing routine maintenance and repairs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain the interior and exterior of our facilities, including snow removal and removal of hazardous conditions.
  • Complete work orders in an efficient and proficient manner.
  • Assist in safety and evacuation drills, procedures, and training.
  • Alert supervisors to any unusual occurrences or violations of rules and regulations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled and maintain accurate log-books.
  • Attend in-service training, seminars, and other educational activities as required.
  • Perform semi-skilled duties in construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair of buildings and mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide on-call maintenance coverage when assigned.
  • Make routine rounds, perform tests, and equipment readings.
  • Repair minor electrical malfunctions and install new equipment.
  • Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of water systems, and unclog clogged drains.
  • Build, alter, repair, and maintain buildings, floors, partitions, windows, doors, screens, wood fixtures, and furniture.
  • Check functionality of safety systems, including fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs, including painting, patching, and sheet rock repair and installation, plaster repair, light plumbing, and light electrical work.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED certification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the maintenance field.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass OCFS, OPWDD, and OMH background checks.
  • Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and repairing hand, mechanical, and power tools and equipment.
  • Intermediate ability to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Perform intermediate level plumbing work, including installation, repair, and replacement of plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform intermediate carpentry work, including repair of stairs, joisting, walls, windows, siding, doors, and other carpentry work.
  • Skilled appliance repair.
  • Intermediate knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in facilities management and activities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of theory of electricity.
  • Basic knowledge of City policies, procedures, regulations, and codes related to facility maintenance and repair.
  • Intermediate knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary precautions applicable to building and mechanical maintenance.
  • Knowledge and implementation of safe work practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of handyman duties, basic plumbing, basic carpentry, basic electrical, building codes, ADA regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, and vendors.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to the position, including lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down 8 flights of stairs.
  • Familiarity with best practices for basic maintenance and repairs and the ability to carry them out with limited supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and interact with tenants and staff in a professional, patient, polite, and respectful manner.
