Job Title: Operating Room Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Operating Room Specialist to join our team at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. As a key member of our Operating Room department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Job Summary:

The Operating Room Specialist Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses, and healthcare delivery teams. This role requires a strong commitment to patient-centered care, effective communication, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
  2. Formulate individualized plans of care based upon assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  3. Support and empower patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end-of-life decisions.
  4. Advocate for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective, provide counsel, and act as a resource to resolve issues, and anticipate ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and intervene to maximize patient outcomes.
  5. Coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
  6. Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data, and intuition and promotes the development of clinical decision-making of all team members.
  7. Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
  8. Assists staff with assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education.
  9. Mentors staff in understanding and advocating for the importance of utilizing relationship-based care initiatives in nursing practice.
  10. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and incorporates their expertise to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  11. Utilizes standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery and accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  12. Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals, seeks opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice, and collaborates in the development and implementation of an educational plan for identified needs.
  13. Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.
Requirements:
  • Certification - Basic Life Support
  • Licensure - Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
  • Experience - 1 year of direct Operating Room experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Education - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree

If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
