Position Overview:

The Kansas Action for Children is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Specialist to support the development of communication skills in students. This role is essential in fostering personal, social, and academic growth among children.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the enhancement of speech and language abilities to promote overall development.
  • Create a supportive learning atmosphere tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and administration to ensure alignment with program standards.
  • Engage effectively with community members and organizations.
  • Utilize appropriate equipment and resources to support therapy sessions.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances and fulfill additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Champion the importance of education and uphold the mission of the organization.
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports in compliance with legal requirements.

General Duties:
  • Identify and address potential educational challenges early on.
  • Track student progress and make informed decisions regarding educational strategies.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments related to speech, language, and hearing.
  • Participate in team evaluations and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Consult with parents, educators, and administrators about student needs and available services.
  • Assist in modifying curriculum and classroom strategies to accommodate diverse learners.
  • Refer families to relevant community resources and support services.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions based on student IEPs and classroom integration strategies.
  • Encourage student motivation through constructive feedback and communication.
  • Recognize and address individual student needs, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records while providing timely updates.
  • Oversee inventory management of materials and supplies.
  • Support public awareness initiatives to enhance understanding of exceptional children's needs.
  • Stay informed about new developments and innovative practices in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and health regulations.
