Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking a dedicated Facilities Custodial Operations Manager to lead our Custodial Services Department. This role is pivotal in overseeing the custodial maintenance of our campus facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient environment for all.

The Facilities Custodial Operations Manager will supervise both full-time and part-time staff, assess cleaning requirements for various facilities, manage inventory and procurement of cleaning supplies, schedule thorough cleaning sessions, and evaluate team performance. This position also involves interviewing potential candidates for employment.

In addition to supervisory duties, the manager will actively participate in daily cleaning tasks to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, provide safety training for staff, and conduct routine maintenance and repairs on custodial equipment.

This position reports directly to the Director of Facilities and collaborates closely with the Building & Grounds Supervisor to fulfill the college's operational needs.

Essential Job Duties

The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Assess staffing requirements for various buildings and oversee operations within assigned areas. Regularly assign tasks, provide instructions, and review employee performance. Coordinate staffing for special cleaning projects.
  • Assist with daily cleaning tasks to ensure facilities are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Evaluate employee performance against established benchmarks and conduct inspections to ensure quality of work. Provide feedback and corrective action as necessary.
  • Train staff on the use of new products and equipment, and conduct regular training sessions on safety and cleaning techniques.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to identify and interview qualified candidates for open positions.
  • Coordinate logistics for special events, including set-up and take-down, and document staff hours related to these events.
  • Assist the Director in managing the budget for labor and materials, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of custodial supplies, meeting with vendors to evaluate new products and make recommendations for purchases.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on custodial equipment.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is functioning properly and address maintenance issues promptly.
  • Report any security, maintenance, or safety concerns regarding the facilities.
  • Support and implement green cleaning initiatives and practices.
  • Adhere to state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
  • Utilize software tools such as MS Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Megamation for administrative tasks.

  • Follow safe work practices to prevent injuries and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a large-scale custodial or maintenance environment.
  • Five years of experience in custodial or maintenance work.
  • Physical ability to handle heavy equipment and materials.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's Degree in Business or a related field.
  • Knowledge of custodial chemicals and safety protocols.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
