Job Title: Heavy Highway Pipe Layer

At CMES, Inc., we are seeking a skilled Heavy Highway Pipe Layer to join our team. As a key member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining underground utility pipes and conduits along highways, roads, and other infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Excavate trenches according to blueprints and specifications using heavy machinery such as excavators, backhoes, and trenchers.
  • Lay pipes in the trenches, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and depth.
  • Identify and locate existing underground utilities using maps, drawings, and utility locating equipment to prevent accidental damage during excavation.
  • Assemble and install pipe sections, fittings, valves, and other components to create a continuous pipeline system.
  • Backfill excavated trenches with soil or other approved materials, compacting each layer to prevent settlement and ensure stability.
  • Inspect installed pipes for defects, leaks, and proper alignment, conducting pressure tests and leak checks to verify the integrity of the pipeline system.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and fellow workers.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other construction team members to schedule work activities, resolve issues, and ensure project objectives are met within deadlines and budget constraints.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in heavy highway construction, pipe laying, or related field is typically required.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, and trenchers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Certifications such as OSHA excavation and trenching certification, CDL (Commercial Driver's License), or specialized training in pipe laying techniques may be required.
