Job Summary:

As a CT Technologist at Brown University Health, you will operate CT imaging equipment to acquire high-quality images for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. You will work under general supervision and follow established protocols and procedures to ensure patient safety and optimal image quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate CT imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information
Ensure patient preparation, obtain relevant patient history, and assure proper positioning
Select proper imaging techniques and follow department protocols to provide a complete study for the exam requested
Provide complete documentation of the exam and provide the Radiologist with images of diagnostic quality for interpretation
Explain the exam to the patient, taking into consideration the physical and emotional needs of the patient, while maintaining ethical standards
Prepare and administer contrast media/medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, following state statutes and department policy
Perform venipuncture with knowledge of appropriate needle gauge for specific exams in relation to injector rates and the safe use of the CT power injector
Maintain a clean work area, prepare the equipment, patient room, and stocks supplies, and inform appropriate personnel when orders need to be placed
Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement projects, as well as utilizing appropriate cost containment measures
Remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as they become necessary
Use independent judgment and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient procedures
Utilize aseptic sterile technique as necessary for any invasive procedures, and assist the Radiologist or Physician during any such procedures
Maintain all supplies needed for these procedures in a clean and organized manner

Requirements:

ARRT Certification (Radiography)
ARRT Certification (CT)
Possess a valid Massachusetts License as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiography)
CPR Certification
Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress
Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures, and cross-sectional anatomy
Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code policy
Must be physically capable of lifting linens, supplies, patients, while utilizing proper body mechanics
Must be aware of hazards within the department and adhere to safety standards as stated by OSHA
Maintains CPR certification and is capable of initiating emergency life support actions as necessary, knows the location of all emergency drugs and supplies, and participates in the monitoring of emergency supplies, including expiration dates

Education:

Graduate of an approved formal program in Radiologic Technology

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear
