Position Overview:
Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and project teams to ensure adherence to company policies, EH&S programs, and regulatory standards on a construction project within the designated geographic area. Facilitate training on safe work practices to inform and guide project teams regarding the management of environmental and hazardous materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) protocols on a designated construction project, in accordance with safety staffing requirements established by Headquarters (HQ) EH&S policy.
  • Oversee resource allocation and provide safety leadership to the assigned project.
  • Evaluate project safety practices and identify potential safety risks, developing and implementing action plans to mitigate these risks and enhance safety awareness among project teams.
  • Communicate necessary improvements to project leadership and teams, ensuring adherence to project-specific safety standards and best practices.
  • Analyze site safety trends and contribute to reducing Project Incident Rates by achieving established Business Unit (BU) goals while managing regulatory exposures effectively.
  • Create tailored training programs for project-specific needs to educate project management, employees, subcontractors, and Turner Trade employees on EH&S policies and safe work practices.
  • Advocate for safe work practices and conditions in compliance with company and EH&S policies, as well as Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Foster strong working relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives.
  • Develop and implement the project Safety Program and related policies and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe actions and conditions, engaging with the project team to implement immediate corrective measures in accordance with Turner, Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Establish an accountability model for the project team to ensure thorough planning for activities and tasks.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with company and EH&S policies and applicable regulations.
  • Assess the quality of Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for subcontractors based on contractual obligations.
  • Conduct preconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to review safety programs and job hazard analyses.
  • Generate safety action items for preconstruction meetings and verify subcontractor training compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Implement an effective orientation program for new employees, ensuring proper documentation of participation.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports, evaluate metrics, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure timely documentation of subcontractors' toolbox safety meetings.
  • Conduct safety audits of the project team, assessing corrective actions and reporting violations or unsafe practices for immediate resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant construction safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or to be obtained within 2 years of appointment.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training and maintenance of current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
  • Proficient in applying safety and environmental principles and techniques.
  • Ability to identify safety-related exposures and lead corrective action implementation.
  • Familiarity with general construction operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build effective professional relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with effective presentation abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and complex problem-solving capabilities.
  • Travel required; access to reliable transportation is necessary.

The employee must be mobile and may occasionally travel short and long distances. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee regularly works at construction sites, exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is typically moderate to loud. The employee may occasionally work in an office setting, where the noise level is usually quiet to moderate. Compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws is required.
