Role Summary

The Senior Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist plays a pivotal role in utilizing spatial analysis methodologies to manipulate, extract, and assess geographic and tabular datasets. The outcomes of these analyses are presented through maps, reports, and visual data representations, which are integral to the decision-making processes at Antero Resources Corporation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and produce map products and data outputs daily, ensuring clarity and alignment with customer and business expectations regarding data precision, content relevance, and overall intent.
  • Collect and interpret both external and internal customer requirements, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of various business processes to design, create, and sustain enterprise databases, tailored workflows, and analytical tools.
  • Formulate logical, multi-step processes necessitating spatial analysis, data integration, and comprehensive reporting. This includes interpreting data, maintaining records, and engaging with customers to generate ongoing solutions that align with their needs.
  • Oversee and support the map services and mapping applications utilized by the expanding customer base within the organization.
  • Manage GIS web browser mapping applications that feature map services and maps, ensuring they are consistently maintained by the Senior GIS Specialists.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on the deliverables of GIS Analysts to uphold the highest quality control standards within the GIS Department, surpassing management expectations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental meetings across various sectors such as Land, Midstream, and Operations to gain insights into the Company's initiatives and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Advise on best practices and standards to promote their application within the department and the broader organization.
  • Act as a GIS technical authority and primary contact for inquiries related to GIS matters, providing support to specific business units within the Company.
  • Utilize Python scripting or Model Builder to automate routine tasks, analyzing weekly data from vendors and preparing scripts for distribution.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to GIS solutions, software, and processes effectively.
  • Assist in training users on GIS software and procedures as required.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process enhancements, including documentation and data cleanup, to ensure data accuracy and reliability while streamlining operations for consistent results.

Qualifications

Essential Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on Geographic Information Systems.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in GIS.
  • Previous experience in the Oil and Gas sector is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a multi-tiered GIS environment.
  • Familiarity with Global Positioning System (GPS) field collection tools.

Core Competencies

  • High proficiency in ESRI's ArcGIS for Desktop application.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Mobile Applications, Python, Petra, and relational databases.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and rectify them accordingly.
  • Capability to extend or modify standard analyses by leveraging past experiences and subject matter expertise.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences, including senior management.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ensuring structured data management and archiving.
  • Adept at recognizing and understanding various processes across multiple disciplines within the Company.
  • Ability to independently research necessary information to complete tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills for code development.
  • Knowledge of land information is advantageous.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Awareness and application of safety protocols and procedures.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based, involving regular use of computer systems and equipment. The employee may occasionally need to stand or walk, with a noise level typically ranging from quiet to moderate.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional requirements to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Minimal traversing through challenging terrain may be necessary for project evaluations.

Travel Requirements

  • Limited travel may be necessary to various locations, including field operations, comprising approximately 5% of the role.
