Facility Maintenance Specialist

Location: Madison, SD

Overview:

The Facility Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and functionality of the building. This position involves executing routine maintenance tasks across various disciplines, including carpentry, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and more. This is a full-time, nonexempt hourly role with rotating on-call responsibilities, reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform janitorial duties and basic repairs, including plumbing and electrical tasks, light bulb replacements, and floor maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team members to prepare rooms for new admissions, including painting and refurbishing as necessary.
  • Maintain the exterior and grounds of the property, which includes landscaping, mowing, and snow removal.
  • Oversee the maintenance of outdoor equipment and vehicles.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in managing heating and cooling systems, including routine air filter changes.
  • Provide transportation for individuals to medical appointments and community outings as required.
  • Support the Maintenance Supervisor with various special projects and seasonal tasks throughout the year.
  • May lead projects and supervise maintenance staff as needed.
  • Familiarize oneself with fire and disaster plans, assisting in conducting drills as necessary.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability in attendance and work performance.
  • Report any workplace accidents or injuries immediately and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Exhibit respect and professionalism towards residents, families, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Uphold the privacy rights of residents and coworkers, ensuring cultural sensitivity.
  • Foster effective teamwork and contribute to the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training and understand responsibilities related to workplace safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred vocational training in plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, or carpentry.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and carpentry systems.
  • Experience in facility maintenance or long-term care maintenance is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms frequently.
  • Capable of lifting and moving up to 80 pounds regularly.
  • Requires bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, or climbing.
  • Maintains focus and concentration with minimal breaks.
  • Must possess adequate vision and hearing for safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Must hold a valid SD Driver's license.

Compensation: $18.00 per hour, based on experience.
