Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team at McLaren Health Care. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic care and monitoring patients' conditions under the direction of an RN and in compliance with the treatment plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe patients' behavior, listen to their concerns, and record their condition, observations, and services performed.
  • Lead patients in therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • Assist with admitting, transporting, and discharging patients.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs.
  • Help patients with activities of daily living, including eating and bathing.
  • Restrains patients who may become physically violent.
  • Deliver compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment and protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste, and other policies and protocols.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in a human services field or science, or;
  • Student currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program who has completed mental health clinical rotation, or;
  • High school diploma with three years providing direct patient care on an inpatient psychiatric unit or residential setting, or;
  • High school diploma with three years of relevant experience in human services (social services, law enforcement, community mental health, hospital, or criminal justice) or working as a security officer in a hospital setting
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with persons with mental illness or substance abuse disorders.
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field or science.
