Job Title: Litigation Legal Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Litigation Legal Assistant to join our team at a national law firm located in Ann Arbor. As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will provide quality legal services to clients, including preparation of correspondence, legal documents, and court filings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercises independent judgment in determining priority levels of all work assigned on a daily basis.
  • Types, transcribes, revises, modifies, and proofreads all correspondence, memoranda, notes, outlines, legal documents, charts, forms, etc.
  • Responsible for electronic and non-electronic filings with various courts (state and federal) and tribunals.
  • Maintains and coordinates attorneys' calendars; communicates with attorneys regarding scheduling.
  • Makes travel arrangements and prepares itineraries.
  • Gathers pertinent materials needed for assignments from files, file share services, and internal departments.
  • Reviews and routes incoming mail not marked personal and confidential, if requested.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls, utilizing judgment regarding when to contact attorneys or others concerning urgent calls.
  • Enters and/or releases attorneys' time, if requested.
  • Prepares and submits invoices and expense reports.
  • Maintains and organizes digital and hard files on request.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; with at least two years of post-high school education strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years of legal support experience, with strong litigation support skills, required.
  • Proficient in state and federal court electronic filing procedures, including MiFile (MI) and PACER.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and proofreading.
  • High level of organizational skills, with ability to multi-task and independently meet deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and ability to deliver superior, professional services to all internal and external clients.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality regarding client information, documents, and conversations.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization in a diverse work environment.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required.
  • Typing speed of 55 WPM or greater.
