WSP is seeking a seasoned Senior Traffic Engineering Manager to join our expanding Traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) division. This role will be pivotal in our efforts to deliver innovative solutions for our clients across various sectors.

The Senior Traffic Engineering Manager will leverage their leadership and technical expertise to enhance project execution, focusing on operational assessments for a diverse range of clients. While the primary emphasis is on operational evaluations, there will be opportunities to engage in traffic design initiatives within our integrated team of traffic operations and design specialists. Responsibilities may encompass conducting capacity assessments, safety evaluations, multi-resolution modeling, traffic impact studies, data interpretation, and overseeing project management. It is essential to ensure that all deliverables meet or surpass industry benchmarks for design integrity, safety, and operational effectiveness.

Your Contributions

  • Act as the task leader and/or project supervisor for traffic engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with our traffic, transit, and planning teams to devise transportation solutions for municipal and state projects.
  • Engage in traffic and accident analysis projects.
  • Employ advanced analysis, modeling, and simulation methodologies to assess traffic operation alternatives aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and mobility.
  • Conduct traffic operation assessments and travel demand forecasting for a variety of engineering and planning projects.
  • Assist in the development of regional and project-specific traffic forecasts.
  • Execute traffic operations analysis utilizing tools such as VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, and other relevant software.
  • Create tables, figures, and technical documentation/presentations to communicate impacts to communities, public agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee tasks while monitoring scope, timeline, and budget adherence.
  • Ensure superior project delivery standards.
  • Uphold ethical decision-making concerning company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as necessitated by business requirements.

Who You Are

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in engineering, with a focus on traffic design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with local client protocols and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of traffic engineering principles, operational analysis, and project management.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects involving roadway planning, design, and construction management.
  • Ability to work autonomously while providing mentorship and leadership to junior team members, ensuring strict adherence to quality assurance and quality control.
  • Proficient in traffic engineering software, including Highway Capacity Manual/Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM/VISUM, and other equivalent modeling tools.
  • Strong technical writing skills and proficiency in mathematics, spreadsheets, and analytical tools.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, and ethical policies.
  • Willingness to adapt to occasional schedule changes to meet business needs.
  • Some travel may be required based on project-specific demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized projects.
  • Proficiency in TransModeler software.
