Position Overview:
The Transit Vehicle Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing maintenance on transit vehicles, ensuring compliance with company standards. This role involves conducting tests and inspections to assess the quality and performance of various components.
The technician will install and maintain equipment, engines, hoses, batteries, tires, wheels/brakes, HVAC systems, wiring, and software to meet operational specifications.Key responsibilities include servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machinery and equipment based on mechanical principles. The technician will monitor indicators to ensure proper equipment functionality and analyze data to determine the best solutions for any issues.
Responsibilities also encompass:- Adjusting and relining air and hydraulic brakes, aligning wheels, and tightening bolts and screws.
- Examining and adjusting safety devices and protective guards.
- Inspecting critical systems such as brakes, steering mechanisms, and wheel bearings to ensure optimal performance.
- Utilizing diagnostic tools to identify malfunctions in equipment.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes and lubrication.
- Reconditioning and replacing parts as necessary.
- Conducting test drives to diagnose vehicle issues.
Technicians must adhere to safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment. They will also respond to breakdowns and perform repairs on the road as required.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. A minimum of 3-4 years of maintenance experience with heavy-duty transit equipment is required. Candidates should be able to obtain a Commercial Driving License with passenger and airbrake endorsements, and possession of 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications is preferred.
At least three ASE certifications in H or T series are necessary, with two certifications including H2, T2, T4, or H4. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to read and interpret safety documents and mechanical diagrams.
Successful candidates must pass a DOT physical examination, including background checks and drug screenings.
Physical Requirements:
Technicians must be able to work flexible shifts and are regularly required to stand, walk, and use their hands for manipulation. They may occasionally need to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to chemicals.
