Healthcare Assistant

The Healthcare Assistant - Patient Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. This individual assists in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performs tasks in a safe manner, adhering to clinical and professional competencies.
Essential Responsibilities
* Assist patients with activities of daily living, promoting independence and dignity.
* Provide personal hygiene support, ensuring patient comfort and well-being.
* Take vital signs and height and weight measurements, accurately documenting results.
* Feed and ambulate patients according to established procedures, prioritizing patient safety.
* Maintain patient rooms in a clean and organized condition, adhering to infection control protocols.
* Observe and report changes in patient conditions, communicating effectively with healthcare teams.
* Orient patients and families to unit policies, instructing them on safety measures and emergency procedures.
* Assist with clerical work, including answering phones, data entry, and maintaining medical records.
* Manage stock supply items, utilizing inventory management systems efficiently.
* Perform technical tasks as trained, such as administering ECG tests and routine venipuncture, prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
Requirements
* High School Diploma or equivalent required.
* Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or North Carolina Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide II certification is mandatory.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per policy guidelines is necessary.
Patient Population Served
This role requires knowledge of growth and development principles and demonstrates skills and competency appropriate for patient populations served.

This position will limit access to protected health information to only what is reasonably necessary for job responsibilities. Information will be shared on a need-to-know basis for work purposes only. Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI has been determined based on job level and responsibility within the organization, controlled via user ID and password.
Machines, Tools, and Equipment
This role utilizes various machines, tools, and equipment required by the unit, including blood pressure manometers, stethoscopes, thermometers, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility cars, and related clinical equipment.
