Overview:
The Aerial Emergency Medical Technician embodies the mission of CHRISTUS Health by providing care for critically ill and injured individuals in an airborne medical setting.
This role is performed with a significant level of autonomy in demanding out-of-hospital scenarios and at various healthcare facilities.
Additionally, this position plays a crucial role in public relations, necessitating interaction with a diverse array of healthcare and public safety professionals during high-pressure situations.
The Aerial Emergency Medical Technician is also responsible for managing specific subject matter and independently executing projects that enhance operational efficiency.
This role involves coordinating transport operations and clinical care alongside the Flight Nurse and Pilot crew members, adhering to established policies and procedures set forth by the administration and medical leadership.
The Aerial Emergency Medical Technician will have a designated primary base but may be reassigned as operational needs evolve.
Additional responsibilities will be assigned to support the clinical operations of the program.
Comprehensive orientation and continuous training are provided to new team members to ensure their success, as the program has stringent post-hire credentialing requirements, including dual board certification.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of experience in a moderate to high-volume Advanced Life Support (ALS) environment; over five years is highly preferred.
Experience in mixed ALS and critical care transport is advantageous.
Current paramedic certification from the State of Texas is required.
National Registry Paramedic certification is strongly preferred upon hire and must be obtained within one year of employment.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is mandatory upon hire.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification is required upon hire.
Certification in a transport-specific critical care board certification (C-NPT, FP-C, or CCP-C) is strongly preferred at the time of hire or must be obtained within 24 months of starting the position.
Prior experience in flight or critical care transport is highly desirable.
Emotional resilience is essential to effectively navigate unpredictable circumstances.
Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to exercise independent judgment while seeking guidance when necessary are crucial.
Excellent public relations and diplomacy skills are required.
Proficient keyboarding/documentation skills and general computer literacy are necessary.
