Job Summary

ChristianaCare is seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team in Elkton, Maryland.

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek, with a day/evening shift schedule from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with on-call responsibilities.

We are looking for an experienced professional who can clean, inspect, sterilize, and decontaminate instruments for the Operating Room and other ancillary departments.

Responsibilities
  • Follow instrument decontamination procedures, adhering to checklists and guidelines.
  • Operate cleaning equipment, including ultrasonic cleaners, washer decontaminators, cart washers, and sterilization equipment.
  • Identify, remove, and replace broken and improperly functioning surgical instruments.
  • Reassemble instruments into their assigned trays according to instrument tray lists.
  • Locate missing items and instruments from instrument sets, instrument boards, bins, or extra instruments in trays.
  • Use knowledge and skills to utilize biological indicators in the sterilization process, adhering to quality control requirements.
  • Identify, wrap, and label items properly for steam, Sterrad, and gas sterilization.
  • Pull case carts for surgical procedures and complete missing item slips for incomplete carts.
  • Restock supplies in the instrument, decontamination area, sterilization processing area, and case cart area according to checklists or par levels.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Educate new employees in Sterile Processing.
  • Respond to emergencies by notifying the appropriate person and taking direction from the appropriate person.
  • Comply with mandatory education requirements and mandatory tests by the given time.
  • Maintain an attitude of helpfulness, courtesy, and cooperation toward others.
  • Ensure par levels are met for sterile storage and the OR sterile instrument areas.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 6 months of Sterile Processing experience is required, with hospital experience preferred.
  • Current National CRCST or HSPA certification is required.
