Job Summary

The General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks to maintain and repair equipment and buildings. This role requires practical skills and knowledge in trades such as HVAC, painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Replace electrical ballast, lamps, receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Paint structures and equipment
  • Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
  • Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hang doors and install door locks
  • Replace broken window panes
  • Perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three or more years of experience in the general maintenance trade
  • One year of experience as a General Maintenance Worker
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools of the general maintenance trade
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and specifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the general maintenance trade
  • Ability to read, interpret, prepare, and work from plans, drawings, and sketches
  • Ability to perform and instruct others in a variety of skilled general maintenance work
  • Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required to complete a job
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
Work Environment

Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor locations. May be subject to confined spaces and subject to changes in temperature and weather conditions.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. Some overtime may be required.
