Primary Purpose:
Facilitate the special education evaluation process. Evaluate the educational and developmental needs of students referred for special education services. Provide diagnostic insights and collaborate with instructional staff to ensure the most suitable programs for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree
Valid teaching certificate
Valid educational diagnostician certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient in diagnostic methodologies, special education pedagogy, human development, and learning theories
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Minimum of three years of teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Receive student referrals and initiate the evaluation process.
- Select and administer both formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Gather and organize pertinent assessment data from the student’s cumulative records, classroom educators, administrative staff, parents, and external resources.
- Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews to collect data for assessment purposes.
- Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpreting assessment data, determining appropriate placements, and developing Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students following district protocols.
- Provide professional development training in assigned schools to support school personnel in identifying and understanding students with disabilities.
- Consult with parents regarding the educational requirements of students and the interpretation of assessment results.
- Collaborate with parents, educators, administrators, and other relevant parties as necessary to enhance their understanding of the Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) and the implications of the student’s disability.
- Establish and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
- Assist in the selection of assessment tools and resources.
- Develop and oversee a continuous evaluation of the assessment program and implement changes based on findings.
- Compile, maintain, and file all necessary reports, records, and documentation.
- Adhere to policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education regulations, and local board policy regarding assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
- Follow all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Engage in professional development activities to enhance skills related to job responsibilities.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Perform additional duties related to Special Education as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional stability under stress. Regular travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying may be required. May involve assisting with the transfer of students with physical disabilities.
