Job Description

SUMMARY: The Financial Controller plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial planning and analysis functions within the organization. This position is responsible for managing accounting operations, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, as well as vendor rebate management. A significant aspect of this role involves leading a structured budgeting process and enhancing current accounting practices to boost operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, technological, analytical, and managerial capabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering comprehensive financial updates to senior leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting relevant data.
  • Guiding financial decisions by applying company policies to the current economic environment.
  • Developing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining financial controls and guidelines, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing a formal budgeting process and supporting the achievement of budgeting objectives through effective scheduling and analysis.
  • Supporting both short-term and long-term operational strategies.
  • Monitoring departmental and corporate budgetary accounts and conducting regular meetings with department heads.
  • Tracking financial and operational performance metrics, budgets, and reporting standards on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Enforcing internal controls alongside the accounting manager to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with technology leaders to assess the effectiveness of accounting software and databases.
  • Assisting department leaders with financial analysis related to capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Managing tax compliance and liaising with tax professionals.
  • Monitoring cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure financial health.
  • Leading and motivating the HR team to deliver high-quality services to employees and management.
  • Developing and implementing HR policies and programs that align with the company's vision and values.
  • Overseeing recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and staff retention.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Managing employee relations and addressing any issues or grievances.
  • Establishing effective communication and collaboration across all organizational levels.
  • Providing strategic guidance on HR matters to senior management.
  • Monitoring HR metrics and trends, offering recommendations for improvement.
  • Managing the HR budget and resource allocation efficiently.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture that reflects the company's values.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, including advanced skills in data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and relevant accounting standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial data clearly.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with accuracy in preparing financial reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in the food distribution industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and cost accounting best practices.
  • Adaptability to changing business needs and priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required.
  • Supervisory or management experience is necessary.
  • A minimum of ten years of related experience is required; experience in wholesale distribution is preferred.
  • Certification as a CPA or CMA is advantageous.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and utilize office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
