Position Overview

A prominent non-profit organization is in search of an experienced Director of Finance to oversee their financial operations. This pivotal role will report directly to the CEO and will lead a dedicated finance team.

This position is integral to the leadership team, responsible for the comprehensive management and execution of all financial functions within the organization and its affiliates.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures for all financial operations, ensuring compliance with established accounting standards and regulations.
  • Provide management with insights on policy matters, compensation, and operational costs.
  • Encourage a collaborative and supportive atmosphere within the finance department, fostering teamwork, professional growth, and a commitment to excellence. Offer strong leadership and mentorship to finance team members to enhance performance and align with organizational objectives.
  • Act as a strategic partner to other departments by delivering financial insights and analysis to support informed decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the integrity of the financial database, ensuring the accuracy and security of financial data while implementing necessary improvements for enhanced efficiency.

Strategic Planning

  • Work alongside the CEO, senior leadership, and Board of Directors to formulate the annual budget for income and expenses. Provide timely financial reporting and recommendations to uphold the organization’s fiscal health.
  • Collaborate with leadership and managers to:
  • Analyze and interpret budgets across all funds.
  • Prepare and review financial reports on a monthly basis and as required.
  • Ensure robust internal control systems are in place across all operations.
  • Guarantee that data collection yields insightful information.
  • Partner with Human Resources to develop policies regarding youth employment, ensuring compliance with labor laws while optimizing opportunities for income generation.
  • Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities for enhancing financial operations, recordkeeping, and reporting, as well as cash flow and cost savings, collaborating with external auditors for audit preparations.
  • Continuously assess and refine financial policies and controls in response to organizational growth, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and regulatory standards.

Resource Management

  • Lead the planning and development of operating and fund account budgets, monitoring expenditures against the budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and accounting practices through meticulous maintenance of financial records.
  • Foster a productive and professional environment within the finance and accounting departments.
  • Direct the annual audit process, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Engage with external auditors and the Audit Committee to review the annual audit and ensure timely completion of audit processes.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management within the non-profit sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of the mission and principles of non-profit organizations.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage finance operations, including personnel supervision and budget management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and develop solutions independently.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, Board members, and community stakeholders.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment.

Compensation:
