Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the month-end close process in collaboration with the Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager.
  • Supervise staff accountants, ensuring a competent and motivated team through hiring, training, development, counseling, and performance reviews.
  • Oversee cross-training between accountants to ensure effective and efficient processes.
  • Evaluate workload and processes performed by accounting staff to identify areas for improvement.
  • Schedule and prioritize tasks, ensuring adherence to procedures, regulations, and guidelines while minimizing errors.
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries and reconciliations prepared by accounting staff for adequate supporting documentation and compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and account ledger maintenance.
  • Propose adjusting entries as necessary.
  • Partner with internal departments to ensure adequate reserves in compliance with GAAP, preparing adjusting journal entries as required.
  • Research technical accounting standards and disclosure requirements to ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements.
  • Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts and financial reporting attributes in the ERP system and other reporting systems.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of two years of public accounting experience plus three or more years of industry accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting systems and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAS and GAAP), including non-profit accounting standards.
  • High degree of computer literacy and skills in specialized software related to department operations, including ERP accounting system, database, spreadsheet, and word processing.
  • Ability to create a variety of documents, including financial reports, narrative analyses, and spreadsheets with graphical representations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of staff management, including supervising, assigning work, and managing performance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, make presentations, and respond to inquiries by senior management, customers, and/or employees.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and human relation skills to build effective relationships with team members, customers, and the public.
  • Knowledge of business English, including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing work priorities and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to act and operate independently and as part of a team with minimal daily direction from the Assistant Controller to accomplish objectives and solve a wide range of business problems.
Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field. A comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered.

Certificates Required:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state, and/or contract requirements:

  • Certified Management Accountant
  • Certified Public Accountant
Work Environment:

Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise and/or a home office environment. Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week.
