About the Role

SKA Consulting Engineers Inc is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of building systems, including HVACR, hydronic, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Prepare mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection construction documents in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Load Calculations: Perform heating and cooling load calculations for building systems.
  • Equipment Selection: Select and layout mechanical equipment.
  • Specifications: Prepare material, construction, and equipment specifications.
  • Review and Approval: Review equipment shop drawings/submittals.
  • Site Visits: Perform site visits to survey existing building systems or monitor construction progress based on design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
  • Commissioning: Participate in the commissioning process to ensure mechanical systems work as intended by the original design.
  • Condition Assessments: Prepare condition assessments and reports.
  • Proposal and Bidding: Assist in preparation of proposals, submittals, and bidding documents.
  • Communication: Coordinate and communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally internally with team, project leader, other SKA disciplines, as well as externally with consultants, contractors, architects, and owners.
  • Equipment Selection and Coordination: Select appropriate equipment for projects through selection software and coordinate with equipment vendors.
  • Design Coordination Meetings: Attend design coordination meetings with team members and clients, as necessary.
  • Professional Development: Demonstrate a desire to advance technical and project management knowledge and skills.
  • Professional Organizations: Actively participate in professional organizations where the technical reputation and image of the firm may be enhanced.
  • Travel: Travel to jobsites as needed, 10% to 20% of the time, including overnight periodically.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Certification: Passed or Registered for the Engineering Exam (EI) with a desire to become a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience: Relevant internship(s) and/or experience.
  • Industry Knowledge: Basic understanding of the architectural, engineering and construction industry, as well as introductory knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Software Skills: Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP.
  • OSHA Certification: Willingness to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
