As a Family Support Services Consultant, you will provide in-home assistance to children and their families using a skill-based, solution-oriented approach. Your goal will be to empower families to implement positive changes through the teaching of essential skills and behavioral strategies while connecting them with community resources and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver intervention services: Establish and nurture effective relationships with families and community service providers, including healthcare professionals, legal representatives, and educational staff, to facilitate access to necessary resources.
- Conduct assessments: Screen and evaluate families to determine eligibility for programs and identify specific areas for improvement in service plans.
- Provide training: Support families in developing and applying functional skills, ensuring they have the tools needed to address challenges.
- Monitor progress: Assess individual and family issues, tracking progress towards set goals and regularly updating service plans.
- Community outreach: Engage in outreach initiatives to raise awareness and provide educational programs for families and youth as needed.
- Maintain availability: Ensure a consistent level of direct contact with families, offering crisis intervention support as required.
- Train stakeholders: Educate school personnel and others involved with children on managing challenging behaviors effectively.
- Promote self-determination: Assist families in identifying and accessing relevant community services and resources.
- Health education: Inform families about the importance of physical health, quality medical care, and preventive health practices.
- Spiritual support: Help families leverage their spiritual beliefs as a source of strength in achieving their goals.
- Professionalism: Model and promote a culture of professionalism and respect in all interactions.
- Travel requirements: Meet families at various locations, utilizing personal transportation as needed.
Administrative Duties:
- Documentation: Prepare and submit reports regarding case load status, budget needs, service plan changes, and any significant incidents.
- Incident reporting: Adhere to guidelines for reporting critical incidents involving families or staff.
- Timely documentation: Ensure that all service plans and documentation are completed promptly as per program standards.
- Feedback implementation: Act on feedback received from supervisors to enhance service delivery.
- Compliance assurance: Ensure adherence to all relevant contractual, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Professional updates: Inform supervisors of any changes in professional status that may impact job performance or compliance.
- Training opportunities: May receive training to become a certified instructor for parenting courses as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent experience as defined by state regulations.
- At least one year of experience working with children and families.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to provide personal transportation for job-related travel.
- Availability for crisis response outside of traditional business hours.
- Bilingual skills may be required based on business needs.
- Certification or licensure may be necessary depending on location and contractual obligations.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in community-based programs or organizations focused on child and family services.
