Equipment Operator I

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Equipment Operator to join our team at the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin Co AL. As an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment under close supervision, performing routine maintenance tasks, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our landfill facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, landfill compactors, and dump trucks, to perform tasks such as excavation, hauling, and maintenance.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including safety inspections, equipment checks, and repairs, to ensure the optimal performance and safety of our equipment.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of our landfill facilities, including the disposal of waste and recyclables.
- Assist with the training and development of new employees, as needed.
- Participate in ongoing safety training and education to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a landfill or waste management setting.
- Valid driver's license and Class B CDL required; must be insurable by insurance standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Experience with heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures, including OSHA regulations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent bending, stooping, and standing.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
