Accounting Supervisor Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Supervisor to join our team at Whatcom County, WA. As an Accounting Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, preparing budgets, and monitoring expenditures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee financial operations in a multi-fund environment
  • Assist in the preparation of the department budget and monitor expenditures
  • Provide monthly reporting
  • Assist managers and supervisors with monitoring of budget to actual expenditures
  • Monitor and assure compliance with grants and contracts
  • Prepare year-end reporting to funding sources, including State of Washington BARS
  • Coordinate with the Finance Department on the annual audit
  • Supervise a team of five accounting staff
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or public administration, or a related field
  • 4 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Completion of coursework requirement for a CPA, including 36 quarter hours of course credit in accounting and business
  • Experience in public health or human services and with an integrated financial management system is desirable
  • Proven experience working with complex Excel functions, including pivot tables and lookups, and analyzing and interpreting financial data to provide actionable recommendations
