Job Summary

As a key member of our Regional Medical Examiner's Office, you will provide lead direction to assigned staff, conduct complex death investigations, and assist with postmortem examinations under the direction of a forensic pathologist.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead direction to assigned staff, including training and guidance on investigative techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct complex death investigations, including gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing reports.
  • Assist with postmortem examinations, including preparing the body for examination and assisting the forensic pathologist with the examination.
  • Develop and implement investigative plans and strategies to ensure thorough and accurate investigations.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to share information and best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest investigative techniques and technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve investigative processes.

Requirements

  • 60 semester units from an accredited college or university, including courses in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and dissection, medical terminology, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of full-time experience as a technician in pathology, histology, surgery, or repeated exposure to catastrophic injury or death.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment.
  • American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation (ABMDI) Diplomate Registration or Certification is required within one year of time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment.
