We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Nurse to join our team at Roanoke County Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager in the organization, administration, and implementation of school health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • ">
  • Assist in providing training for nursing staff and ensuring mandatory training is completed.">
  • Provide health care services as needed in schools when regular nurse is absent as assigned by Nurse Manager.">
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, nursing staff, parents, and community leaders.">
  • Current knowledge in the practice of nursing and CPR/AED.">
  • Assist school nurses with vision screening as assigned.">
  • Provide monthly training on appropriate medical topics and school board policies to new substitute teachers as needed.">
  • Assist with orientation of new school nurses as needed.">
  • Assist in completion of mandatory state reports.">
  • Assist with research to obtain resources for nurses and update policies.">
  • Review TB risk assessments for new employees as required. Send out letters for employees who request Hepatitis B vaccine.">
  • Monitor AEDs, stock EpiPens, stock Albuterol, and stock Naloxone for school office location.">
  • Perform assessments and interventions related to illness, injury, and mental health.">
  • Refers students to outside healthcare providers and/or agencies as needed.">
  • Responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating school health services.">
  • Maintains, evaluates, and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual student health needs.">
  • Chronic disease management and education.">
  • Organizes and implements state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance, teaching family life, and health screenings.">
  • Screening for health factors impacting student education.">
  • Development of Individual Health Plans and Emergency Plans.">
  • Identifies health-related needs for inclusion in Individualized Education Plan when appropriate.">
  • Medication administration, procedure completion, diabetes management (routine and crisis care).">
  • Provide staff training for OSHA, medication administration, seizures, stock albuterol, diabetic management, and other relevant health-related issues/conditions.">
  • School/community healthcare provider liaison.">
  • Maintains accurate documentation in comprehensive school health records and student health visits via electronic records.">
  • Maintains confidentiality.">
  • Performs related work as required.">
  • Participates in wellness and crisis management teams.">
  • Medicaid billing and separate documentation that is required by the Department of Assistive Services for that billing to be processed.">
  • Supervision of personal care assistants.">
  • Reacts positively to constructive criticism and suggestions.">
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation.">
  • Works independently or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances.">
  • Demonstrates good safety habits and response to emergency situations.">
  • Exercises sound judgment in decision making using the nursing process, ethical, and evident-based research.">
  • Practices nursing in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.">

Requirements:

We require a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Master's degree preferred. You must be Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact multi-state license. School Nursing/Pediatric experience is also necessary. Certification in CPR/AED is required, as well as Completion of REVIVE Train the Trainer program. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills are essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
