A Tax Intern, Business Incentives Group, plays a crucial role in helping BDO achieve its core purpose by assisting companies and individuals in identifying and claiming government incentives designed to promote innovation and economic growth.

Our clients are industry leaders in innovation, spanning technology, manufacturing, life sciences, healthcare, retail, consumer products, and natural resources. As an STS BIG Intern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with BDO professionals and clients' innovation leaders in tax, accounting, finance, and other business lines.

Our short-term mission is to help clients efficiently and effectively identify, document, and support R&D-related incentives. Our long-term goal is to develop a deep understanding of our clients' businesses and become their trusted advisors.

In pursuing this mission, we seek to help our STS BIG Interns gain experience in becoming trusted advisors, ensuring they have a clear sense of the importance and responsibilities of such a role, as well as the training and opportunities to fill it.

Toward that end, STS BIG Interns pursue opportunities to gain and improve skills in technical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, project management, practice management, and business development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution of multiple client engagements
  • Collaborate with other STS BIG professionals in all aspects of our business, innovating and developing strategies and processes
  • Establish effective working relationships with STS BIG professionals and other BDO employees
  • Contribute to the development of STS BIG's technical acumen
  • Assist in business development research and identification of opportunities for new and existing clients
  • Contribute to and enhance the culture of STS BIG, our local offices, and BDO as a globally leading professional services firm

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Accounting, required

Experience:

  • Leadership experience, preferred

Software:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and basic research skills
  • Solid organizational skills, especially the ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to interact professionally with people at all organizational levels of the firm
  • Desire to understand why a task is being performed and to seek learning opportunities
  • Demonstrated interest in performing self-study to further develop technical competency and knowledge of issues impacting the R&D credit

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $28.00/hr - $37.00/hr

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr

Washington Range: $28.00/hr - $37.00/hr
