Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled School Nurse to join our team at Petrosky Elementary School in Alief Independent School District. The successful candidate will provide healthcare services to students, develop and implement individualized healthcare plans, and work collaboratively with teachers and staff to ensure the health and well-being of our students.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with disabilities, including those who are medically fragile.
  • Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
  • Conduct health assessments, including screenings for health factors impacting student education.
  • Provide acuity assessments for students with disabilities to determine recommendations for ARD/IEP/health plans.
  • Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data, including IEP-related documents.
  • Coordinate, compile, and submit documentation required for local, state, and federal compliance reporting.
  • Utilize equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services, including nursing diagnosis and treatment, documentation, presentation materials, organization, and management.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of current laws, trends, and best practices related to supplemental nursing and school health services.
  • Provide First Aid/CPR/AED as needed.
  • Assist in the formation of health policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the school district.
  • Provide chronic disease management and education, including ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheostomy care, catheterizations, etc.
  • Assist special education teachers with IEP implementation of special education students as needed.
  • Attend ARD/IEP meetings as needed.
  • Maintain current clinical skills and competence.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing education program, preferred.
  • Valid registered nurse license from the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in community health, ambulatory care, school health, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse, preferred.
Working Conditions

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced school environment, interacting with students, teachers, and staff. The position requires frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds) may be required, as well as regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities. The School Nurse may be exposed to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $62,995/BA, $63,495/MA, $63,995/PHD (based on previous experience). The position is a 190-day contract.
