Grocery Inventory Manager

Job Summary
Whole Foods Market is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Grocery Order Writer to join our team. As a key member of our grocery department, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely ordering of grocery products, maintaining inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete Order Writer training and certification
- Replenish products through proper buying procedures, ensuring accurate inventory levels and minimizing waste
- Order perishable and non-perishable grocery products, maintaining optimal back stock levels and adhering to quality standards
- Monitor and act upon open PO reports for purchases and credits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Control spoilage and shrink, participating in inventory and cycle counting to maintain optimal inventory levels
- Complete spoilage and inventory management processes, including sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required
- Ensure timely and accurate orders for products, monitoring inventory turns and maintaining optimal stock levels
- Oversee customer special order procedures, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring timely fulfillment
- Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage, identifying opportunities for improvement
- Support leadership in conducting inventories, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets
- Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and modeling suggestive selling techniques
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
- Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
- Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, ensuring equipment is in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations
- Perform other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of grocery products and industry trends
- Working knowledge and application of all grocery merchandising expectations
- Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm
- Strong basic math skills
- Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members
- Ability to follow directions and procedures, effective time management and organization skills
- Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
- Understanding of and compliance with WFM quality goals
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in a wet and cold environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
