Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Medical Lab Scientist to join our Central Automated Lab at Duke University Hospital. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a crucial role in serving the rare and complex testing needs of our diverse patient population. You will work closely with our team to provide timely and accurate results, educate the next generation of laboratorians, scientists, and physicians, and research and develop cutting-edge diagnostics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Process patient samples for testing using appropriate identification techniques and written procedures to ensure quality material for testing.
  • Operate manual or computerized instrumentation, calibrate, and maintain it according to standard operating procedure.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems as directed by senior staff, communicate problems/issues to appropriate individuals, and document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, participate in the development of new medical laboratory tests and techniques, and prepare for lab inspections.
  • Review lab inspection documents and procedures to maintain knowledge, bring non-compliance issues to the attention of upper-level staff, and perform proficiency testing as directed to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology required.
  • Certification preferred.
  • Minimum educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA director if minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.
Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is around $85,000-$105,000 depending on experience.
