Job Title: School Nurse

Job Summary:

The School Nurse is a vital member of the Mooresville Graded School District team, responsible for providing high-quality health services to students and staff. This role requires a strong understanding of medical disorders, child growth and development, and public health procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school health program that promotes student wellness and academic success.
  • Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services to students and staff.
  • Conduct health appraisals, screenings, and follow-up evaluations as required.
  • Collaborate with other child-support agencies to design and provide a school health program.
  • Develop and maintain health records on students, including immunizations and health findings.
  • Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
  • Correspond with parents on health needs of children and conduct home visits when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Certification by the American Nurses' Association (ANA) or the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).
  • Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment, child growth and development, and public health procedures.
  • Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources.

Evaluation and Measurement of Performance:

All school nurses are evaluated using the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System, along with formal and informal observations by the school and central office administration.

Terms of Employment:

10-month contract with salary commensurate with the NC State Teacher Salary Schedule as outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Full benefits package offered with full-time employment.
